Slow day
Today didn’t go as planned, so I got no crafting what so ever done. I’m a bit dissapointed but it’s expected to happen every here and there, in a house with three (count them) kids. Izzy (the little girl I watch), had a very hard day and kept hitting my kids, which resulted in alot of intervention on my part and discussions about keeping our hands to ourselves. The boys were a handful, and so loud you’d have thought I had four or five boys instead of 2. The girly had one of those days where she just wanted to held and loved, and I can never so no to a good snuggle with her.
Since today got me nowhere in the crafting department, I’ll show some past projects and link you to some future ones on the cutting table. First up is an adorable chiffon pettiskirt I made for the girly’s first birthday back in July. I used the tutorial from the martha stewart website for the skirt, and it came out lovely! I wouldn’t use it for a larger child though, since the measurements are for a size 12-2t. I cut out a number and made a little tutu for it and appliqued it onto a tank top I bought from Target. She wore it for pictures and on the day of her party, and everyone loved it. It was however a very tideous skirt for me, because I don’t have a ruffler foot and simply used elastic thread to gather. From start to finish it probably took me a week, with multiple breaks to keep my sanity from all the lovely chiffon goodness. There were so many times I was covered in chiffon layers hidden from the rest of the house, and that was nice. So here’s a picture of the whole outfit, girly included.
The last one I’m going to share for today is a simple shirt we made my hubby for father’s day this year. He’s the skater punk rocker type, and he loved this shirt. The boys were actually able to help with this project too, so that was a bonus. It’s made using a $3.50 shirt from Michaels, to which I drew a chalk outline on. I mixed a solution of 50/50 water and bleach and painted it on over the chalk outline. Because were terribly impatient over here, we used a blow dryer to help speed the drying process. It ended up needing around 4-5 coats, and we had to soak it in water when we were done to neutralize the bleach. The kids and me had a blast doing this, hubby loved it, win win!
On to the new projects, or the to do list, whichever you’d prefer to call it. Me and my sewing friends are huge fans of the you can make this website. There’s always something new on that website and the instructions are so good. Here’s your link, http://youcanmakethis.com/ . And my shameless plug, hi Heather, hi Dorothy! The best part about that website is that you can make a wish list to keep track of all the great patterns on your to do list, and you get points from buying patterns which you can use to buy more patterns. I have so many on my wish list that I wish I had more time in the day for sewing and an endless supply of fabric. So that’s it for now, if anyone is interested in doing a sew along with me let me know! I’d love to see how other people’s stuff comes out!
